Kuwait reiterated Monday evening its solid stance and full support for the Palestinian people"s fight to achieve their full political and legal rights, namely establishing an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, and called on the UN Security Council to take immediate steps to protect civilians. This came during the address of the Permanent Kuwaiti Mission to the UN, delivered by First Secretary Nayef Habis Al-Otaibi, to the "Special Political and Decolonization" (Fourth Committee) of the 64th session of the General Assembly. The committee was discussing a special report investigating Israeli practices that violate the human rights of the Palestinian people and other Arabs living in occupied territories. "We call on the international community, represented by the Security Council, to take up its security responsibilities and stop the practices of the Israeli government, through activating and implementing its resolutions and taking immediate action to protect civilian residents and guarantee that such brutal actions - that are adding to the deterioration of the living conditions of the Palestinian people - are not repeated," Al-Otaibi was quoted as saying by KUNA. Al-Otaibi demanded that the Israeli government withdraw immediately and unconditionally from the occupied Syrian Golan Heights and to implement the recommendations of the Special Committee and to cooperate with it. He also called on the international community to exert pressure on the Israeli government to stop its stark violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the occupied territories; to implement related UN Security resolutions including 242, 338, 1397 and 1515; and to implement the land for peace principle, the Arab peace initiative and the "Road Map," with the aim of arriving at just and permanent peace in the Middle East. --MORE
