On the imports level, the Central Department of Statistics & Information (CDSI) reported that the total value of Saudi imports during the Second Quarter of this year, registered an 18% decrease accounting for about SR 82, 721million as compared to SR 105,705 million during the same period in 2008, showing an overall decline of SR 18,984 million in terms of value. In a relevant matter, CDSI disclosed that the volume of the weightage of the imported products showed an 11% decrease in 2nd Quarter of 2009, accounting for 12, 374,000 tons as compared to 13, 827, 000 tons during the same period last year. The main imported commodities were electrical machines, equipment and tools; Foodstuffs; transport machines; base and manufactured metals. USA came first as the Kingdom's major importer followed by China, Germany and Japan. At the level of groups, the Kingdom's import partners included non-Arab and Muslim Asian States, The European Union, North American States, GCC States, respectively. With regard to the trade between the Kingdom and the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries, the report said that the value of the national imports from the GCC countries decreased by 24% to SR 6, 163 million as compared to SR 8,072 Million in the same period of last Year. UAE came first as Saudi Arabia's major GCC importer-partner followed by Qatar, Kuwait, BahrainOman Respectively.
