GCC foreign ministers held a meeting with Australian foreign minister Steven Smith on the fringes of the meetings of the 64th session of the UN general assembly. They reviewed GCC-Australian relations as ell as issues pertaining to the peace process in the middle east and the Arab peace initiative in addition to the global financial crisis and its impact on the world economy. The GCC foreign ministers also held a meeting with foreign ministers of Rio group. Issues of mutual interest were review including GCC relations with the members of this group. GCC secretary general Abdul-Rahman al-Atiyyah participated in the meetings.
