U.S. highway travel increased again in July, as signs of a rebounding economy continued to emerge, the U.S. Department of Transportation said Wednesday. U.S. driving was up 2.3 percent in July from a year ago, increasing 9.3 billion kilometers to 423.9 billion kilometers. It was the third increase in highway travel in four months, following more than a year of declines due to the weak economy and 2008's high gasoline prices. The department tracks motorists through more than 4,000 automatic traffic recorders operated by state highway agencies.
