Eastern Province traffic police have installed radar speed monitoring devices along the 100-kilometer stretch of the Dhahran-Jubail Highway to record traffic violations. Thousands of motorists travel daily on the Dhahran-Jubail Highway, which is the scene of horrific accidents and deaths the year-round. The highway is considered the second-heaviest used road in the Kingdom with 126,000 cars traveling on it every day. Traffic police cars stationed at strategic locations along the highway have been equipped with cameras and radar with digital sensor systems, which in a matter of seconds can capture photos of the license plates of speeding vehicles. The new radar can also take photos of motorists using mobile phones while driving, those not wearing seatbelts, and cars overtaking other vehicles wrongly. Although traffic violators will not be stopped, their violations will be recorded at the police traffic data center. Traffic violators will only learn of their offenses when they transact business with the traffic police department, apply for visas, or renew Iqamas. Speeding is the most common violation on roads and highways in the Kingdom. The region's traffic police department emphasized the importance of compliance with traffic rules and adherence to the speed limit on public roads all times.
