At least 22 people died when a tourist boat capsized and sank Saturday in Ohrid Lake in southwest Macedonia today, dpa reported. Most of the dead are believe to be elderly tourists from Bulgaria. According to initial TV reports there were 74 people on board, despite the vessel only being licensed for 43 people. The bodies of 22 victims have so far been recovered. Some 62 of the passengers were Bulgarian tourists on their way to the medieval monastery St Naum. Bulgaria has declared a national day of mourning for Sunday, with the government describing the disaster as a "terrible tragedy" for the country. The vessel, the Ilinden, was constructed in 1924 in Regensburg, Germany, and had recently undergone a technical checkup. Witnesses told local media the vessel broke in two parts and sank within 60 seconds. -- SPA
