A boat carrying people to a wedding in central India capsized and sank on a lake, killing 10 people and leaving nine missing, police said Thursday, according to AP. Nine other people managed to swim to safety after the boat went down late Wednesday near the city of Pune, said police officer Prakash Sonar. Police and local residents were searching Thursday for the missing, but hopes of finding more survivors were slim, said Sonar, adding that police believe the boat was overcrowded, causing it to capsize when it reached the center of the lake. Boat accidents are frequent in India, usually blamed on severely overcrowded and aging vessels.
