Also lower were industrial firms including Caterpillar and Boeing. The broader S&P 500 fell 8.31, or 0.8 percent, to 1,020.62. The technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index fell 19.71, or 1 percent, to 2,009.06. The New York Stock Exchange composite index fell 65.80 to 6,643.24. The American Stock Exchange composite index fell 15.36 to 1,670.68. And the Russell 2000 index fell 7.79 to 572.07.
