U.s. President Barack Obama has not yet seen a new assessment of the conflict in Afghanistan, the White House said Monday. Spokesman Robert Gibbs told reporters that the report from General Stanley McChrystal, the new commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan, was making its way “up the chain of command” after being delivered to NATO allies and the Pentagon earlier on Monday. Gibbs said Obama had asked for the assessment of the eight-year-old war, realizing that the effort had been “under-resourced” for “the better part of a decade.” Gibbs reiterated that McChrystal's report was separate from any possible request for more troops.
