Qatar announced its first death as a result of swine flu on Friday, a man aged 34, according to local reports. The victim was also found affected with a chronic lung infection and a high temperature when he admitted himself to hospital five days ago," Qatar's Health Minister Abdullah Al-Qahtani was quoted as saying by Qatar News Agency (QNA). QNA also quoted medical sources as saying that the victim had returned on-land from a trip to the United Arab Emirates and had been to a couple of hospitals in Dubai after having experienced symptoms of the A(H1N1) virus. The sources added that the man died after being admitted to the critical condition ward at Doha's Hamad General Hospital, and after being given the required treatment. The victim was additionally affected with obesity, which is a factor that increases the possibility of swine flu infection. In a related statement, Qatar's Supreme Council of Health said that all swine flu cases in the country have safely recovered without having to resort to hospitalization. The council added that treatment has been provided to the victim's family, who are being monitored on a daily basis.
