A new patient diagnosed with H1N1 flu died on Saturday bringing to 11 the total number of swine flu-related deaths in the Kingdom of Jordan, according to the Ministry of Health. Mohammed Abdallat, Director of Communicable Diseases in the Ministry, told Jordan News Agency (Petra) that a 4-year-old girl, who was suffering from a chronic hereditary disease, was admitted to the Prince Hamza Hospital in a critical condition as laboratory tests confirmed she was infected with the H1N1 virus. He said the patient received the necessary treatment, but died several days later. According to the ministry, a total of 181 H1N1 cases have been registered in Jordan after 8 new cases were confirmed. It urged the public, especially high-risk groups and the most vulnerable, including children, the elderly and people with chronic diseases, to take extra precautions. The ministry also said individuals who show early signs of infection should seek diagnosis and early treatment to reduce possible complications before they develop into a critical illness. The Therapeutic Protocol adopted by the National Committee for the Prevention of Epidemics identified as swine-flu infection symptoms as high fever, headache, coughing, runny nose, sore throat, muscle aches, breathing difficulty and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea. The ministry provides free treatment for flu patients in the accredited hospitals.
