Five Jamaican athletes failed anti-doping tests, the Jamaica Observer newspaper reported Friday according to dpa. According to the report, four men and one woman belonging to Jamaica's 46-member team for next month's World Athletics Championships in Berlin returned positive tests for banned drugs at last month's national senior championships in Kingston. The athletes are reported to be sprinters, including two members of the men's 4x100m relay team, two in the 4x400 and a female 4x100m relay runner. None of Jamaica's top stars like Asafa Powell and Usain Bolt are believed to be affected. Dr Herb Elliot, who serves on the IAAF's Medical and Anti-doping Commission, denied knowing about the positive results. "I don't know anything about it. It has not reached me yet," he said according to dpa. The world championships take place from August 15 to 23.
