(dpa) - Spain will seek "cooperation and dialogue" to resolve its "unrenounceable" claim of sovereignty over Gibraltar, Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said during an historic visit to the British territory on Tuesday. Moratinos became the first Spanish minister to officially visit Gibraltar since Britain took control over it in 1704. In the 21st century, problems were solved through dialogue instead of confrontation, Moratinos said during the visit which was blasted as a "betrayal" by Spain's conservative opposition. The situation was not yet ripe to relaunch sovereignty talks which were interrupted in 2002, the minister explained. Moratinos entered the rocky outcrop by car instead of flying, to stress Spain's claim over the land on which Gibraltar airport is located.
