The General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) was meeting today to discuss suspension of troubled Honduras just hours after the unrecognized post-coup government said it was walking out anyway, according to dpa. Tegucigalpa has defied the OAS demand to reinstate by Saturday the democratically-elected President Manuel Zelaya, who was expelled from the country by the military last weekend over power-grab suspicions. Zelaya himself was to take part in the OAS meeting, as were presidents Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner of Argentina and Fernando Lugo of Paraguay. Member countries were to hear Saturday OAS Secretary-General Jose Miguel Insulza's report after travelling to Tegucigalpa a day earlier to demand that the Honduran post-coup government reinstate Zelaya. The General Committee of the OAS General Assembly was meeting behind closed doors.
