The head of the Organization of American States (OAS) warned Thursday that sanctions against Honduras are likely. OAS Secretary-General Jose Miguel Insulza said the international community has done “practically everything that can be done” to persuade Honduran interim leaders to give up power and restore ousted President Manuel Zelaya. Insulza said at a news conference in Guyana on Thursday it will be “very hard to turn things around” by a Saturday deadline set by the OAS. He said the OAS will discuss sanctions over the weekend.
