German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier is to visit the Middle East next week, a government spokesman announced on Friday, dpa reported. Steinmeier is due to depart for the region on Sunday, and will spend the following two days visiting Israel, the Palestinian Territories, Syria and Lebanon, where he is to hold talks with political leaders. Aim of the trip is to discuss the conflict in the region, and help to push for a two-state Israeli-Palestinian solution. The Foreign Office spokesman spoke of a "new dynamic" to the Middle East peace process since US President Barak Obama took office in January. This will be Steinmeier's 14th trip to the region since taking office in 2005.
