Council of Human Rights reviewed on Thursday in its 11th session in Geneva some reports prepared by special rapporteurs of the council. Those rapporteurs included the special rapporteur on violence against women Yakin Erturk who presented a report in which she reviewed her visits to some countries including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In the part on Saudi Arabia, she hailed Saudi cooperation with her and said, "The kingdom witnessed positive developments in a brief period." She added that Saudi women's education contributed to their access to the job market and decision making positions hailing the appointment of the first female deputy of the Minister of Education. Head of the Saudi delegation to the meeting Dr. Zaid Al Hosain commented saying that the kingdom adopts a moderate course based on the moderation and justice of Islam and that the Commission of Virtue Promotion and Vice Prevention is a government agency that has set tasks according to its approved regulation. Dr. Zaid said the report used generalization terms and based some of its judgment on individual cases. He added that the kingdom promotes and protects human rights and cooperates with mechanisms of human rights. He explained that the kingdom is proceeding toward bolstering the status of women.
