Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon today became the latest minister to step down from the government of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, dpa cited the BBC as reporting. Hoon, a former defence secretary, had been implicated in the long-running scandal over parliamentary expenses and admitted having made a "mistake" by claiming allowances for two homes simultaneously. He is the fifth minister to step down from the British government this week. His resignation came as Brown undertook a cabinet reshuffle aimed at restoring his control.
