The Arab Gulf Program for United Nations Development Organizations (AGFUND) will set up the first Bank for the Poor in Sierra Leone in West Africa as part of the initiative of Prince Talal bin Abdulaziz, President of AGFUND to fight poverty in Arab societies and some African countries. The Bank will be established in partnership with the Government of Sierra Leone and the private sector. Sierra Leone becomes the 5th country to join the system of Banks for the Poor after Jordan, Egypt, Yemen, and Bahrain. AGFUND targets nearly 896,000 poor people by 2011 by providing them with comprehensive financial services including small loans, savings and insurance.
