Prince Turki bin Nasir bin Abdulaziz, President of the Presidency of Metreology and Environment (PME) said Sunday the working plan of Kuwait Summit represented implementation steps of Kuwait declaration which includes upgrading the standard of living of Arab citizens. "These are aimed at achieving economic prosperity and social advancement which lead to sustainable development for all the Arab countries," he said in an address at the opening of the extraordinary session of the Arab minister responsible for environment, which began its deliberations in Cairo earlier today. He pointed out that leaders in Kuwait Summit issued directives for taking the necessary action with respect to preserving the environment and natural resources and making optimal usage as a key element in achieving sustainable development in all areas of economic and social developments in addition to improving the quality of life of the citizen and to work to reduce the impact of climate change and its repercussions on the Arab societies. The requirements of environmental sustainability in the Arab atmosphere was included in the Arab action plan to activate The Arab ministerial declaration on climate change to build and strengthen capacities for disaster-risk reduction, emergency situations and the development of institutional structures and legislative policies for the protection of the Arab environment, the application of integrated waste management, strengthening the role of Arab institutions on the environment and the promotion of non-governmental organizations and the media in educating citizens and decision-makers in various environmental issues.
