King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, will open the three-day first Saudi environment and sustainable development event to be held here from March 7-9, according to its organizer Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME). “This prestigious forum will discuss several important themes: The prominent role of trade and industry in environmental conservation and sustainable management of water and sanitation, oil and renewable energy integration and environment technologies and the challenges of climate change, the necessary legal framework to protect the environment and the role of financial institutions in environmental projects,” said Prince Turki Bin Nasser Bin Abdul Aziz, President of the PME, at a press conference here on Sunday. “Saudi Arabia has made a quantum leap in the field of meteorology, environmental protection and maintenance of resources,” Prince Turki said. The Kingdom, he said, has a clear vision adopted by the PME to protect the environment and reduce the effects of climate change. “It's part of the development and the right planning, said Prince Turki. “The PME message is to protect the environment from pollution in water, air and lands and all the creatures living in there,” he added. The PME, he said, is set to launch major projects through participation of both public and private sectors in preserving the marine environment, air and wildlife.
