Taiwan on Monday cleared a mother and a daughter of having been infected with the H1N1 influenza, calling the incident a false alarm, according to dpa. While preliminary results on Sunday showed that the pair were likely to have been infected with the H1N1 virus, or swine flu, later test results on Monday showed they had were infected with the AH1 flu virus, the Centres for Disease Control said. On Sunday night, health minister Yeh Chin-chuan called a news conference to announce that a mother and her daughter became ill after returning from the United States on May 5, and that there was a 90 per cent chance that they were infected with H1N1 virus. The mother 32, and daughter, 21 months old, became ill on May 6 and went to a hospital. By Sunday, they had visited three hospitals. They were put into isolation at the Municipal Ho Ping Hospital in Taipei Sunday evening, after the Jen Ai Hospital alerted health authorities. Nine relatives and doctors who have come into contact with the mother and daughter had been ordered to stay home for self- monitoring, pending the outcome of the test results. Doctors at the Ho Ping Hospital said the mother and daughter had high fevers. The daughter's fever had reached as high as 40 degrees Celsius, but has since lessened. Minister Yeh has said many times that it is only a matter of time before the H1N1 virus enters Taiwan, but has said Taipei is prepared to combat it and prevent it from spreading into Taiwan communities.
