The symposium of "Modern Methods for Storing Hazardous and Radioactive Materials" organized by the Center for Studies and Research, an affiliate of Naif Arab University for Security Sciences, started here today within the framework of the University's scientific program for the year 2009. In an augural speech, the Center's Dean Dr. Abdul-Ati Ahmed Al-Sayyad reviewed the program of the symposium as well as the Center's achievements in the field of scientific symposiums, conferences and studies. On his part, the Symposium's Scientific Supervisor Dr. Amjad Kayid Al-Fatafitah emphasized the importance of the topic of the symposium in the framework of technological progress in human life and the use of chemicals and radioactive materials in various applications of life, which in spite of their enormous benefits to mankind, constitute a great danger to human health and environment unless they are dealt with correct and sound methods including methods of storage in order not to spread their leakages to the surrounding environment. It is noteworthy that Naif Arab University for Security Sciences has signed a scientific Memorandum of Understanding with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) including one of the most important item on preparation of a specialized academic program of a nuclear safety to be introduced to academic curriculums at the University's Higher Studies Faculty.
