The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) on Thursday said it will work with the U.N. Roll Back Malaria (RBM) campaign to achieve a set of development targets. The U.N., through its Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), aims to eradicate extreme poverty by 2015, but this cannot be achieved unless malaria is eliminated, said OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu and RBM Executive Director Awa Marie Coll-Seck in a joint statement. “The OIC is proud to work with the RBM Partnership to support the attainment of six of the eight MDGs by 2015, which cannot be achieved unless malaria is defeated,” the statement said. Malaria kills one child every 30 seconds and three times as many young children as HIV/AIDS, according to the World Health Organization. --More
