Governor of Taif Fahd bin Abdulaziz bin Muammar opened here on Tuesday the 3rd Taif national Conference on diabetes. The conference is organized by King Abdulaziz Specialist Hospital of Taif in cooperation with Directorate of Health Affairs in Taif. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Humaid Al Sawat, the conference's general supervisor, said that the conference aims at spreading awareness about diabetes and the latest developments in this field. Dr. Abdul-Rahman Kurkuman, the Director of the administration of Health Affairs inTaif, reaffirmed the importance of the conference, and said it would contribute positively to the promotion of the medical services pertaining to diabetes. He pointed out that a number of specialized diabetes centers have been established at King Abdul Aziz Specialist Hospital, King Faisal Hospital as well as the Children's Hospital. He added that work is underway to establish a specialized diabetes center in the governorate at a total cost of more than SR5.1 million. The conference's main topics include, Progress towards the development of an artificial pancreas, current standards for management of diabetes and its complications, diabetes mellitus in pregnancy, diabetes in children and metabolic syndrome. On the fringes of the conference there three workshops will be organized on how to prescribe diet in Saudi culture, care of diabetic foot and meet the difficult management cases. Dr. Mohammed bin Maatuq Usaimi, the Director of King Abdul Aziz Specialist Hospital Program, said that the conference which is attended by a select group of consultants from inside and outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia constitutes an important event.
