Belgian Prime Minister Herman Van Rompuy held talks Today with Jordan's King Abdullah II on means of advancing the Palestinian-Israeli peace process and building partnership ties between Jordan and the European Union, dpa quoted a royal court statement as saying. The discussions tackled "latest developments in the region and urgent Middle East issues including efforts under way to spur the peace process", the statement said. "King Abdullah stressed the need for re-launching serious negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis that lead to a settlement on the basis of the two-state solution," it added. "The monarch expressed Jordan's keenness on building up ties of strong partnership with the EU countries," the statement said. The Belgian prime minister is currently on a private visit to the Hashemite Kingdom. Th British Foreign Secretary, David Miliband, was also in Jordan for talks on Thursday.
