French President Nicolas Sarkozy's chief of staff says President Barack Obama will come to France for commemorations of the 65th anniversary of the allied D-Day landings on the beaches of western France in June, AP reported. The U.S. Embassy is not immediately commenting on the announcement by Claude Gueant. Gueant said Thursday on France-24 television that Obama «will come June 6 for the commemoration of the Normandy landing.» Gueant says Obama and Sarkozy will use the occasion for «longer discussions» than those they will have next month at a NATO summit. The two presidents have not held formal talks since Obama's election in November. The June 6, 1944 D-Day landing in Normandy turned the tide of World War II in Europe.
