Syria has expressed concern about the arrest warrant issued by the international criminal court (ICC) against Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Basheer, and said the decision of the ICC constitutes a dangerous development and runs counter to the system of the international relations. The Syrian news agency quoted a source at the Syrian foreign ministry as saying that the decision of the ICC ignores the immunity which is enjoyed by the heads of the states in line with Vienna treaty for 1961. The source added that this development will have an adverse impact on the situation in Sudan and the march of political settlement for Darfur crisis. This irresponsible behavior as regards dealing with Darfur crisis is a flagrant aggression against Sudan's sovereignty and constitutes an intervention in its domestic affairs, said the source. The source pointed out that Syria has urged the security council to shoulder its responsibility towards peace and stability in Sudan and to work for the suspension of the procedures taken by the ICC.
