A fire at a refugee hostel in Germany which appeared to have been deliberately lit injured three people, DPA quoted police as announcing today. Residents fled the building in fear after synthetic curtains along a row of windows in a lounge caught fire in two places. Two women from south-eastern Europe and a child, 3, fled to the roof and had to be treated for smoke inhalation after being rescued. Police said they had no idea yet who lit the fire to the hostel in Straubenhardt in south-western Germany. At the time, there were 12 people in the building, which houses people who have applied for German political asylum. They were moved to new accommodation while smoke deposits were cleaned from the hostel.
