An explosion kills one worker and injured six others in a fire-extinguisher plant in Beijing on Saturday, Xinhua quoted police as saying. The accident occurred at about 9 a.m. when more than 10 people were working at the plant in Jiuduhe Village, Huairou District on the city's outskirts. The victim and the injured were all residents from nearby villages. Among the injured was the plant manager Xiao Daixia. Police found detonators and sulfur, both necessary for the making of the extinguisher, at the site. The officials of the village committee and the town government said the plant had just begun operation and they had no knowledge of the hazardous materials. An investigation, launched by police, and the district work safety and fire-fighting authorities, has begun.
