U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the only women on the highest court in the United States, has undergone surgery for pancreatic cancer, a spokeswoman said on Thursday. “I can confirm that she had surgery for an apparently early stage of pancreatic cancer,” Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg told Agence France-Presse. In a statement, the Supreme Court said Ginsberg would likely remain in hospital for seven to 10 days while she recovers. In 1999, Ginsberg was diagnosed with colorectal cancer for which she underwent surgery. At the White House, spokesman Robert Gibbs said President Barack Obama had not talked with Ginsberg, “but his thoughts and prayers are with her and her family right now.” “We hope for and wish her a speedy recovery,” Gibbs said.
