U.S. President George W. Bush delivered his weekly radio address Saturday on the subject of John Roberts, the man the president has nominated to be the next Supreme Court Justice. "Judge Roberts has a stellar record of achievement. He is a man of sound judgment and the highest integrity. He has the qualities Americans expect in a judge-experience, wisdom, fairness and civility. He has profound respect for the rule of law and for the liberties guaranteed to every citizen. He will strictly apply the Constitution and laws, not legislate from the bench," Bush said as he described Roberts' career and other qualifications. Bush urged the Democratic opposition to quickly vote on Roberts' nomination and approve him to replace outgoing Supreme Court Justice Sandra Say O'Connor. "In the weeks ahead, the Senate will have an opportunity to rise above partisanship," Bush said as he reminded his listeners that the last two Supreme Court Justices-Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer-were approved in less than 80 days after first being nominated. "America is fortunate to have a man of such wisdom and intellectual strength willing to serve our country," he said. --SP 2102 Local Time 1802 GMT
