At least three sand miners were buried by a landslide as they were working in a quarry on the slope of a hill at Wailette, Hatiwe Besar village, Teluk Dalam sub district, Ambon, on Monday, ANTARA reported. Two of the miners were rushed to Otto Kuyk Hospital in Passo village, Baguala sub district, while rescuers were trying to find another sand miner who was still buried under soil from the landslide. Local authorities had actually banned sand mining on the hill in the Wailette area because the hill`s slopes being very steep any digging activity on them was dangerous. But local people had continued to mine sand on the hill without permits.
