Four people were killed and four others were seriously injured in a residential gas explosion in Taipei County, Taiwan on Sunday evening, Xinhua quoted the county's fire station as saying. The explosion occurred in an apartment on the fifth floor of a 11-story building, and the resulting fire spread as high as the eighth floor. Some escaping residents suffered smoke inhalation or minor burns. Fire officials said it wasn't clear if the blast was caused by overheating of a gas oven or a possible suicide attempt. The area has been sealed off for an investigation.
