The UN Security Council on Friday extended the UN mission in Nepal by another six months, according to dpa. The political observers are to remain in the Himalayan state until July 23, but the mission cannot last indefinitely, the council said in its unanimous decision. The term of the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN), set up by the UN to support the peace process in Nepal, was due to end Friday. UNMIN started work in Nepal in January 2007, following the signing of a comprehensive peace agreement between the government and the Maoist rebels.
