President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, greeted a line of visitors at the White House on Wednesday, one day after he took office as the 44th U.S. president. The president and the first lady shook hands and spoke with a steady line of surprised visitors passing through the Blue Room. The White House is open to the general public for tours, though high ranking officials are rarely seen by visitors. Obama joked that the visitors should wander around the building but be careful not to break anything. Vice President Joseph Biden and his wife, Jill, also are having visitors to their official residence in Washington.
