Another case of suspected cholera has been recorded in Solwezi at Songisa Village in Mushitala area near Solwezi River in southwest Zambia, bringing the number of patients to three, Xinhua quoted Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) as reporting on Wednesday. Solwezi District Medical Doctor, Harrison Ng'uni confirmed that Alick Mwape was taken to Kimasala cholera isolation center for treatment at 6 p.m. local time (1600 GMT) on Tuesday, ZANIS said. Ng'uni said the first two cholera patients, John Kafumukache and Lwidi Songesha, both of one family, who were admitted to the isolation center, are responding to treatment and they will be discharged two days later. Ng'uni said the Cholera Preparedness Committee in the district is carrying out a sensitization campaign on cholera prevention. Meanwhile, Solwezi District Commissioner Albert Chifita has appealed to Solwezi residents not to be panic over the outbreak of cholera in the area, according to ZANIS. Chifita said the health authorities in the district were working around the clock to contain the situation, and urged all Solwezi residents to observe personal hygiene by drinking boiled water, eating warm food, washing their hands after using the toilet and avoiding crowded places. He explained that the council and other stakeholders have organized themselves to clean all dirty places in the town, in conjunction with the Keep Solwezi Clean committee.
