Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa ended Saturday a three-day visit to Cuba during which he argued for an end to the US economic embargo on the communist country and hopes for better ties with the forthcoming presidency of Barack Obama, according to dpa. The leftist-oriented Correa had met with Cuban President Raul Castro during a visit which observers saw as part of Havana's effort to demonstrate to Obama that Cuba is no longer isolated in the Latin American community. Prior to Correa, Panamanian President Martin Torrijos had visited Cuba, while Chilean President Michel Bachelet is due to visit in February. Meanwhile Argentinian President Christina Kirchner postponed for health reasons a visit which was to have started on Sunday. Kirchner had suffered a fainting spell, with her doctors advising her to postpone until January 18 her trip to Cuba and Venezuela, media reports in Buenos Aires said Saturday. Correa arrived late Wednesday in Havana. On Thursday he placed a wreath at the memorial of Cuban independence hero Jose Marti and met with Raul Castro at the seat of the Cuban government.
