Israeli conflict. The tragic events in Gaza clearly and evidently demonstrate this. Consequently, the reasons behind extremism and terrorism, or rising concern of weapons of mass destruction, as well as instability in several middle eastern countries or even lost opportunities of development are directly linked to tensions in the region and a direct result of the ongoing failures of the international community at large and the United States in particular to bring about a just and comprehensive solution to the protracted conflict. Therefore, any attempts to reach a peaceful solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict, or even hope for an imminent revival of serious consideration would certainly bring about drastic change to crises in the region as a whole. Thus, I, along with Secretary General of the Arab League were delegated by the Arab League to send a message to the US President-elect Barack Obama to urge him to give the highest priority and exert effort to reach a peaceful solution to the Arab - Israeli conflict, in which we renew our commitment to peace. Everyone knows the basic factors for the achievement of peace, which are all presented in the Arab Peace Initiative as well as the Makkah Summit which called for an overall peace and normalization of relations with a peaceful and stable Israel provided that it withdrew from all territories occupied in 1967 as well as the establishment of a Palestinian state with Eastern Jerusalem as its capital and reaching a just and humane solution to the refugees issue. However, the Israeli escalation contradicts with the Initiative desire for peace as well as with the international support it has gained. If all realizes the features of the desired solution, then all has become to know the reasons for not realizing peace until now. --More
