A three member delegation of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) led by Ambassador Hemayetuddin, Director General of Social and Cultural Affairs has met the President of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Pottering and his accompanying delegation. The meeting took place in Riyadh on December 23 at the request of Hans-Gert Pottering, according to a press release of the OIC issued in Jeddah yesterday. Other members of the OIC delegation included Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakheet and Ufuk Gokcen, Adviser to the OIC Secretary General. The discussions between the two delegations were held in a friendly and cordial atmosphere. They exchanged views on different issues of mutual concern and interest in free, frank and constructive manner. The OIC delegation briefed the EU Parliament President of the new vision of modernization and moderation of the OIC contained in the Makkah Declaration, the OIC Ten Year Programme of Action of 2005 and the OIC new Charter to meet the challenges of 21st century. They stated inter alia that the OIC, as the largest inter-governmental body outside the UN, was focused on global peace and security and social and economic development of the Member States. --MORE
