Taiwan is planning to ease restrictions on cross- strait exchanges by allowing Chinese artists to perform and shoot films in Taiwan, an official said Wednesday, according to dpa. Government spokeswoman Shih Ya-ping said Taiwan will soon ease restrictions so that there will be more equality in exchanges with China, as Taiwan singers are allowed to perform in China. Under the plan, Taiwan will allow Chinese singers to perform and record CDs and produce MTVs in Taiwan. Taiwan will also allow Chinese crews to shoot films and TV drama in Taiwan, but half of the actors in films - and two-thirds in TV dramas - must be Taiwanese. "We will also urge China to allow Taiwan publishers to publish in China," Shih told a news conference. Taiwan and China launched people-to-people exchanges after 1987. Currently Chinese artists can visit Taiwan for cultural exchanges, but are barred from engaging in commercial activities like holding concerts.
