The death toll in a massive fire that gutted a popular shopping centre in Pakistan's garrison town of Rawalpindi rose to 12 on Sunday, while at least two were still missing, officials said. Most of the dead were emergency workers trying to put out the fire when the two-thirds of the five-storey Gakhar Plaza collapsed on Saturday afternoon. "Twelve people have so far been confirmed dead and 59 were injured. Two to three people are still missing," city's district coordination officer Imdadullah Syal was quoted as saying by DPA. Another official, the deputy commissioner Haseeb Athar, said the rescue work was still continuing. "We fear that some more people are buried under the rubble. We are trying to pull out them alive."
