The United Nations says cholera in Zimbabwe has killed 1,123 people and sickened over 20,000. The U.N. humanitarian office says the number of cases since the start of a cholera outbreak in August had risen to 20,896 by Thursday. The latest figures released Friday _ which are compiled by the World Health Organization _ show that the fatality rate stands at 5.4 percent. The agency has said it needs to be less than 1 percent to control the outbreak. It says lack of clean drinking water and sanitation and the country's crumbling health system make it difficult to contain.
