Minister of Water and Electricity Eng Abdullah Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Husayen, who is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) signed a 36-months contract with Korean Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction; Doosan Hydro Technology and Saudi Berkefeld Co for the execution of the 3rd phase of Jeddah Desalination Plan. The plant, which uses the reverse osmosis process, is estimated to cost SR 1,099,308,420. It will have a production capacity of 240,000 cubic meters per day. The project includes the rehabilitation of sea-water in-takes and the initial treatment of sea water and high-pressure pumps. The signing of the contract came in line with the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to provide potable water to citizens and residents as part of efforts to address water shortages in the province of Jeddah and strengthening water resources.
