Norwegian salvage teams and representatives of a shipping company were Wednesday assessing how to prevent fuel leaking from a freighter that ran aground in the Oslo fjord, reports said, according to DPA. The 97-metre long vessel was taking on water. Although a pilot was onboard, the Norwegian-owned freighter loaded with 5,000 tons of cement ran aground early Wednesday. The 12 crew members sustained no injuries and were safely evacuated from the ship. A main fear was that the ship, called the Crete Cement, would sink completely, and that about 135 tons of heavy oil and fuel would leak into the fjord waters. Oil booms have been placed around the Bahamas-registered vessel.
