Saudi Arabia, with 225 hospitals and in-patient facility of 31,420 beds, has succeeded in providing 13 beds for 10,000 people or One bed for 771 people. This has been disclosed in the Health Statistical Year Book for the year 1428-1429 AH, published by the Ministry of Health (M.O.H). The highest percentage of beds (15.4% of total beds) was in the departments of gynecology and obstetrics, followed by the department of internal medicine (15%) then the department of pediatrics (14.5%). As many as 16113 physicians and dentists (21% of them are Saudis) are working in these hospitals. The total number of pharmacists is 804. As many as 511 of them are Saudis, accounting for 64% of pharmacists serving in these hospitals, the report said. On the other hand, nurses accounted for 37,652. Out of this number, 13,542 are Saudis forming 36 per cent of the Nursing staff. --MORE
