Iraq's Health Ministry says the number of confirmed cholera cases has risen to 479 nationwide since the beginning of an outbreak in August. A ministry spokesman, Dr. Ihsan Jaafar, also says the number of cholera-related deaths stands at eight, including six children. Wednesday's statement says the southern province of Babil tops the list with 230 cases, while the capital Baghdad comes next with 73 cases, according to a report of Associated Press.
