The Communications and Information Technology Commission has announced that it has requested mobile telecommunications service providers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to immediately begin updating the records of their subscribers beginning from the current month of Shawal for the numbers from 0500000000 to 0504999999 of the Saudi Telecommunications Company and the numbers from 0540000000 to 0543999999 of the Mobily Company. The CITC will announce the other numbers that require updating at the beginning of every month. The Commission urged all subscribers to initiate the records update as soon as possible in order to ensure that their service does not become subject to disconnection. In this month of Shawwal, the service providers will start sending short text messages to each of their subscribers requesting them to submit their full name and national identity (ID) card number. The subscriber may send the required information by a short text message, or by any other method proposed by the service provider. In the event that the newly submitted information is not identical to the existing record or is incorrect, the subscriber will be advised accordingly and will need to carry out the necessary update by visiting the nearest branch office of the service provider with the original and a copy of his ID card. This procedure is intended to preserve the privacy of the participants, and to avoid continuing complaints arising from malicious or annoyance calls originating from unidentifiable callers. The Commission wishes to emphasize the importance of not using any number whose identity is not known, or of buying or selling such a number, so as not to be exposed to legal actions based on the current laws and regulations.
