The Communications and Information Technology Commission has requested mobile telecommunications service providers in the Kingdom to update records of their subscribers. This is to protect the subscribers and prevent unauthorized use of their names by others, a press release issued here on Sunday said. The Commission has also called on all subscribers to update their records as soon as possible in order to ensure continued services. At the start of October, service providers will start sending short text messages to each of their subscribers requesting them to submit their full name and national identity (ID) card number. The subscriber may send the required information by a short text message, or by any other method proposed by the service provider. In the event that the newly submitted information is not identical to the existing record or is incorrect, the subscriber will be advised accordingly and will need to carry out the necessary update by visiting the nearest branch office of the service provider with the original and a copy of his ID card. This procedure is intended to preserve the privacy of subscribers, and to avoid continuing complaints arising from malicious or annoyance calls originating from unidentifiable callers. The Commission also emphasized the importance of not using any unidentified number, or of buying or selling such a number, so as not to be exposed to legal actions based on the existing laws and regulations. __
