The United States suspended visa services at consular offices in Pakistan on Thursday, citing concerns over security following the deadly bombing of a hotel in Islamabad last week. “Consular services have been temporarily suspended as of today,” State Department deputy spokesman Robert Wood told reporters. “We are very concerned about the security situation. We had the attack on the Marriot Hotel almost a week ago, and it's of great concern.” Wood emphasized that the suspension of consular services in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Islamabad was only temporary and would not affect emergency services for U.S. citizens in Pakistan.
